Satellite-IoT
What is satellite-IoT?
A satellite is a technological device that orbits a planet, like the earth. These high-tech device are built by specialized space companies. They are focus on different sectors like telecomunications, observation, imaging, SOS signaling, space research and military operations.
Satellite IoT refers to a satellite in orbit specifically designed for telecommunications in Internet of Things (IoT) services. Its primary goal is to establish a direct connection between ground-based devices and the satellite for efficient data transmission. Satellite IoT is typically used to connect sensors that monitor remote areas on Earth, such as seas and mountains, enabling the collection of vital data (case studies click here)

How does satellite-IoT work?
Satellites are extremely complex devices, but they can be simplified into different components. These include onboard electronics, such as power supplies, sensors, and control units; solar panels positioned outside the main body; propulsion units (though not all satellites require them); antennas for IoT or other types of connectivity; and a large infrastructure to operate, activate, and monitor the satellite from Earth.
Typically, Satellite-IoT systems connect with ground-based sensors that may require a concentrator for power and a large antenna. Apogeo Space is developing a network where nodes establish a direct connection to satellites, allowing them to transmit data directly to space without intermediaries.
This means that the connection is established directly between a ground device and a satellite. However, it’s important to remember that the satellite also needs to download the data. To facilitate this, ground stations are built in various locations around the world. These stations receive the data from the satellite and typically upload it to the internet, ensuring fast communication with the companies that require it.
