IoT satellite Data connection IoT everywhere
IoT satellite technology connects satellites with ground sensors, allowing universal data collection and monitoring.
The new era of IoT satellite technology is designed for everyone. Satellites are advancing rapidly with the privatization of the space sector.
IoT Satellite technology works by creating a direct connection between a satellite and a ground-based device, such as an antenna or “node”, which is a device positioned on the ground. What sets this technology apart is that it doesn’t rely on traditional ground networks, which means it offers truly global coverage. This makes IoT satellites the ideal solution for capturing data from sensors on devices, even in the most remote areas where traditional networks are out of reach.
Unlike satellites designed to provide internet access, IoT satellites excel at monitoring and collecting data. This capability is invaluable for industries that need to gather information from distant or hard-to-access locations, such as agriculture, logistics, and environmental monitoring.

IoT for satellite and ground
As mentioned, the IoT satellite connects a node on the ground to a satellite. This is only the first step in an IoT satellite connection. Typically, the nodes are connected to sensors that measure various parameters such as humidity (agriculture application), vibration (security and earthquake detection), temperature, CO2 and air quality (application for fire detection, pollution detection, oil and gas monitoring). This set allows for the collection of thousands of data point from around the world, which can be sent and received on your laptop. This is only the first part of the telecommunication process where nodes send data to the satellite.
Once the data is captured by the satellite, it can either be downloaded directly to a ground station during the satellite’s orbit or relayed through a constellation of satellites . This constellation can communicate with each other, allowing the data to be sent to the satellite closest to a ground station for downlink.
Satellite IoT, meaning IoT connectivity between a node and a satellite, requires an antenna on the node (the ground part) and an antenna on the satellite to send and receive data packets.
The dimensions and specifications of these antennas vary based on factors such as power requirements, geographical location, visibility, and other details. Apogeo has developed the best antenna for the majority of use cases.
